Details
Born in London into a family of east European immigrant Jews, Arnold Wesker was one of the founders of 'kitchen sink' drama. Originally written for performance at Coventry s Belgrade Theatre in the 1950s, these three plays are most often performed alone. However, never ones to shy from a challenge, mac YT presents the trilogy in full. Following the fortunes of a Jewish family through from London s East End in the 1930s to Rural Norfolk twenty years later this classic naturalist trilogy explores the way in which idealism can turn sour and charts the death of an ideology. From the heady political days of the Battle of Cable Street, through the dark days of the Spanish Civil War and World War II up to the Soviet Invasion of Hungary and the partition of Palestine, global events provide an epic background to what is essentially a warm, human story of family life. Humorous, powerful and dramatic, this is a rare opportunity to see Wesker s masterpiece as it should be seen.
