Not Just a Pretty Voice - T0771726172

One of the world's favourite operas comes to the big screen in Opera Australia's celebrated production of Puccini's romantic love story. Fall in love with the beautiful costumes, colours and the quietly mythical spirituality of Moffatt Oxenbould's classic production. Lieutenant Pinkerton has arrived in Nagasaki, where his ship will be stationed for an extended tour of duty. While he is there, he intends to live well. The local fi xer, Goro, has rented a house with a view for him, and hired the staff. All that is missing is a little wife to come home to. Goro can provide. He knows a girl. Her name is Butterfl y. Puccini's Madama Butterfl y is one of the world favourite operas, and is one of Opera Australia's most celebrated productions with acclaimed Japanese soprano Hiromi Omura in the title role. She is joined by young Australian tenor James Egglestone, making his role debut as the dastardly Pinkerton, with Michael Lewis as Sharpless and Dominica Matthews as Suzuki. And to conduct, we welcome Ryusuke Numajiri.

T200016646

The nation’s favourite impressionist, Alistair McGowan from The Big Impression, will open this year’s Festival. Alistair resurrects his legendary celebrity impressions and introduces audiences to a host of new never-before-heard voices along the way - nobody does it better! But Alistair’s stand-up is about much more than impersonation - expect sharp observations, poetry and romance, animals and surrealism, love and anger, wordplay and ‘greenery’ as well as footballers and film stars. No make-up or costume changes - just one man, a microphone and an amazing multitude of voices - including most importantly, his own.
