An important International Piano Series recital debut from the young German-Japanese pianist Alice Sara Ott, who made her first recordings for Deutsche Grammophon aged only 20. When she substituted for Lang Lang at short notice in 2010, The Guardian judged the event ?the kind of gawp-inducing bravura performance of which legends are made . She was Echo Klassik s Young Artist of the Year in 2010 and her CDs of Liszt s Transcendental Etudes and Chopin s Waltzes have drawn rave reviews. Her concert moves from the deceptive simplicity of Mozart s Duport Variations through Beethoven s lively Sonata Op.2 No.3 to the expressive drama of Chopin and Liszt. Liszt s ?paraphrase on Rigoletto ends the concert, capturing the Verdi s operatic expression with a range of astounding and audacious effects.
