The Dark Angels/Greenapples
The Dark Angels - Sit tight for exhilarating internationally acclaimed hip/hop from Bristol's Angels Dance Academy. Tonight's show will feature performances from the Dark Angels (2008 winners of the hip/hop division of the adult world dance championships), the Seraphins (British junior hip/hop champions, shortly to represent the UK in Las Vegas), as well as the Shadow Angels. Angels Dance Academy was founded 5 years ago with the aim of increasing young people's physical activity through hip/hop dance. Based at The Park in Knowle, Bristol, the Academy now has over 13 dance crews made up of more than 300 members aged between 5 and 24 years.
Greenapples - Choreographed by Mark Bruce to the music of the White Stripes, Green Apples is a commanding duet performed in the round. Separated from the performers by only a rope, the audience is drawn into a visceral and immediate experience as the dancers circle themselves and each other in a space of physical intensity and magnetic energy. Originally created for Darren Ellis and Pari Naderi, Green Apples was commissioned by the Summer Collection for ROH2 at the Clore Studio of the Royal Opera House in 2006.
