Sushmita Ghosh - Across.../Noor/aa+sam - T1881977550A triple bill of neo-classical Kathak dance, from one of its finest exponents. Across... a dynamic partnership of the body, rhythm and melody, based on improvisations of dance led by Sushmita Ghosh, with live music by the award-winning flautist and composer Keith Waithe. Sushmita has been creating work for other dancers such as Amina Khayyam (Laal Shaari and aa+sam). Across is her own first major creation since the last acclaimed piece The Rosary for which Nitin Sawhney composed. Noor - A confluence of dance, music and poetry, Noor unravels many tales wrapped into the rich, multi-layered narrative of classical Kathak. It is the gentle blossoming of the Raga while it negotiates the leisurely Vilambit, the engaging Tarana and the brisk Druta compositions. Noor is also a reflection of the inner journey of the dancer as she prays to be stripped of the turbulence of the material world while entering her dream like realm of dance. And this journey to the ‘other’ finds parallels in the poems of the Sufi saint Maulana Jelaluddin Rumi, who sees this life just as another dream before the soul wakes up to return to its real abode. aa+sam - a rhythmical journey through a time cycle that has no beginning or end.
