Body of Work
Body of Work is a highly physical dance composition of ambiguous body images, mixed movement styles and multimedia performance, which references to the striking imagery of Cuban-American body artist Ana Mendieta. Four dancers from backgrounds ranging from contemporary to urban and African influences investigate their physical heritage through skilfully crafted anatomical autobiographies. Images are projected on to bodies in motion to create fascinating visual effects. Combined with intriguing object manipulation and a captivating soundtrack, the result is stirring and unpredictable. MotionManual is an international collective of artists from different performance backgrounds, founded in Leeds by Manuela Berndt. Part of Bodyworks 2, Tobacco Factory Theatre’s international and local dance and physical performance initiative.
