Terra Firma - T0822569932

The best stories never get old, but you can tell them in new ways. NDCWales share fresh works from Marcos Morau, hailed as 'The next big thing in dance' and Mario Bermudez Gil, who wowed at Copenhagen International Choreography Competition, alongside Folk from the company's own Artistic Director, Caroline Finn. Folk is a vintage fairy-tale twisted upside down. They say ?there's none so queer as folk' and in this quirky and surreal portrait of community life, Caroline's grim characters paint a fantastical picture. The theatrical choreography, and dark humour are accompanied by a captivating soundtrack and rich, haunting designs. Marcos Morau is known as a 'choreographer who doesn't dance' and he's been making waves across Europe with bold work drawing on inspiration from art, history and cinema. Tundra is powerful and generous and tears pages from history using notes from Russian folk dance, the USSR and revolution. Morau takes old ideas and uses contemporary dance to give them renewed meaning in a modern age. Mario Bermudez Gil will create a new work drawing on his Spanish roots and Israeli training give a unique flare which will blend with NDCWales' own brand of quirky theatricality to make a piece full of character and incredible skill.

Not About Everything - T01520863553

A single body enters the space and begins to turn. The turning begins gently, but it gradually transforms into an insane gyratory motion. Within this obsessive circular motion, performer Daniel Linehan introduces a series of variations, accelerations and subtle shifts, creating a funny and complex dance. He subjects himself to strenuous processes involving multiple simultaneous tasks without ceasing his perpetual spinning. Linehan tells us he is not speaking about desperation, endurance, or government policy; he is not speaking about celebrities, virtuosity, or metaphysical problems. But through his words he calls these issues to our attention, evoking a world far larger than the contained circle he's performing within. Endlessly spinning around in the centre of this shifting network of ideas, Linehan creates an inverted black hole. A space of disorienting vertigo perhaps, but also a space of thoughtful reflection where all of these ideas can flow and resound. It's a superb, thrilling performance that slices things apart. Ideas, expectations, the notion of what might be next.Presented byCardiff Dance Festival. Presented byMigrations. Company Hiatus. Performer Daniel Linehan.

Black Out - T0356354229

Three dancers contend with thousands of black granulated fragments transforming their world. Images jar, shifting in response to light, sound and movement. Little by little, light gives way and darkness takes over. Watched from above, Black Out is wonderfully intimate and intriguing. Somewhere between dance, performance and graphic art, it is an experience in which perceptions and perspectives won't stay still. Black Out takes place in a specially constructed box on the Dance House stage, with the audience looking in. There are a limited number of tickets for each performance. We advise booking early, particularly if you want to bring a group.Company Compagnie Philippe Saire.

Walking Mad/Tuplet/Mythology/Purlieus/They Seek to Find the Happiness They Seem - T1487117647

Walking Mad, by revered Swedish choreographer Johan Inger is a riveting piece of dance for nine dancers, full of wit and laced with an unsettling edge of madness, whilst Alexander Ekman's Tuplet uses humour and meticulous rhythm and timing to create a fun and uplifting experience that brings out the unique personalities of the Company dancers as well as showcasing their strength as a group. These two new works in the Company programme will be performed alongside Stephen Shropshire's 2014 creation Mythology, and a choice of Lee Johnston's two works Purlieus and They Seek to Find the Happiness They Seem, created for the Company in collaboration with the dancers. Mythology is a fiercely physical yet thought provoking work set to avant-garde jazz and spoken word that pushes the dancers to their physical limits. Lee Johnstons' They Seek to Find the Happiness They Seem is an emotional duet that explores the disconnection that can occur in relationships and is set to lighting design by Joe Fletcher while in Purlieus, created by the same unique artistic collaboration, dancers move between boundaries and blankets of stunning 3D light animation to create a beautiful and immersive experience.Choreographer Johan Inger (Walking Mad). Tuplet/Mythology/Purlieus/ - T711793356

Tuplet - Alexander Ekman is largely viewed as one of the most exciting choreographers on the international dance scene today. Tuplet uses wit and meticulous use of rhythm and timing to create a fun and uplifting experience for everyone involved. The dancers create their own percussive score which combines with an electronic soundscape featuring snippets of jazz and big band, meaning they can show off their versatility while projecting their individual personalities. Mythology - Stephen Shropshire's work is set to an avant-garde composition for piano, jazz ensemble and spoken word, and features powerful group movement sequences that are crafted to mind boggling detail, with a genius of construction. Shropshire wanted to explore how the movement could push the dancers' physicality beyond its limits, harnessing the energy and power of the group to go further, creating something even more intensive. It's an incredible and mesmerising piece of dance to watch. Purlieus - Lee Johnston's piece, created in collaboration with lighting designer Joe Fletcher combines movement, light and animation to draw the audience in to what's happening on stage as an immersive experience. As the dancers move in and between boundaries of light, the audience is asked to relate their own experiences to what they see playing out on stage. They Seek To Find The Happiness They Seem is an exploration of the separation and disconnection that can occur within a relationship. It uses reconfigured snippets of imagery from popular culture that connect with us all on a subconscious level. These almost unrecognisable fragments play with our memory to instil a sense of disconnect in us, pulling us closer to the central theme at the heart of the work.Choreographer Alexdander Ekman (Tuplet). Choreographer Stephen Shropshire (Mythology). Choreographer Lee Johnston (Purlieus).
