Tess - T68710004

Tess is a groundbreaking adaptation of Thomas Hardy's classic novel Tess of the D'Urbervilles. An ensemble of performers weave together Hardy's words and the extreme physicality of circus to tell this tale of power, loss and endurance.Against a backdrop of projections the cast wield wooden planks, climb shifting walls and move through ropes and swathes of linen to evoke the vast landscapes and interior worlds of Hardy's Wessex. It is a story which still has extraordinary relevance for our times in its incredibly nuanced evocation of female relationships, sexual desire, consent, privilege and poverty. This retelling captures the beauty, heartbreak and yearning of the novel and draws upon the incredible strength of the circus body to create a Tess as heroic as Hardy intended.

PUBLIC is a new outdoor performance about the ownership of public space, which has become increasingly colonised by corporations. In PUBLIC ten young acrobats and dancers create an image of a reality where they are able to be utterly without guard in a public arena. Incorporating acrobatics, parkour and dance they move through the architecture of the streets, lifting each other over and around walls, stairs, obstacles - dancing with the fabric of the world. The show is about support, freedom and tenderness and asks how and where we can be uninhibited and unbound. At the end of the show Public culminates in a mass dance for everyone to join in with, see https://www.ockhamsrazor.co.uk/publicflashmob for more information.Presented byPUBLIC.

Triple Bill: Arc/Memento Mori/Every Action - T01022818160

Arc - Arc tells the story of three people who find themselves stranded together. It is about the balance between them as relationships form and break apart. It explores the experience of isolation in close proximity. It takes place on an aluminium aerial raft rigged 3.5 metres off the ground. Due to the way it is rigged the structure seems to float in the air, it also up-ends dramatically half way through the performance. Memento Mori - Memento Mori is a powerful duet performed on a suspended metal frame. It is based on Holbein's woodcuts of 'The Dance of Death', where death is represented as a skeleton that dances each of us to our grave. Every Action - Every Action is a playful look at the bonds that form when people are thrown together. Four strangers meet before twenty-five metres of suspended rope. As they explore this elevated set of scales they discover a world where everything you do will affect someone, somewhere.Producer Turtle Keys Arts. Director Ruth Naylor-Smith (Arch). Ocham’s Razor is a critically acclaimed aerial theatre company, specialising in creating physical theatre on new pieces of aerial equipment. Their work focuses on the relationships between people in the air and they create stories from the vulnerability, trust and reliance that exists between them. The name comes from the medieval philosopher William of Ockham and reflects the way the company work: given a choice between two theories, go for the simpler one thereby keeping the work cogent, artful and easily grasped. Every Action... - T51812901

Ockham's Razor are four aerial artists who specialise in creating physical theatre around new pieces of aerial equipment and combining circus, dance and visual theatre. In Every Action... four strangers come together before twenty-five metres of rope looped over two pulleys. If someone pulls on one side of the rope, the rope on the other side is affected and it's here, in this world of push and pull, that the meaning of altruism, antagonism and reliance are all explored. Every Action... is at once playful and arresting and looks at a world where everything you do will affect someone, somewhere.
