T0486120020This event will explore the remarkable works of music, poetry, cabaret and drama that have emerged from some of recent history’s worst atrocities. The Holocaust, the sieges of Leningrad and Sarajevo, the genocide in Rwanda and the current wars in Gaza, Iraq and Afghanistan; all have yielded extraordinary creative works that both express and address the unthinkable context in which they were produced, and in doing so become supremely powerful investigations into the nature of humanity itself. The performance will be followed by a panel discussion chaired by Samuel Hodges, HighTide’s Artistic Director, about the role of the arts during conflict, and will be opened out into a wider conversation about the purpose of the arts today in the face of extreme situations.Director Clemency Burton-Hill.
