Abelard and Heloise, Holy Guilty or Wholly Innocent archiveThis adaptation of the reputedly oldest existing love letters in Western Europe, and the first autobiography, has been transformed into a witty surreal play by Tamsin Irwin. This story of an exceptional young female student and one of the most influential medieval philosophers scandalized Parisian society. The sensational repercussions of the affair have fascinated historians and artists since the letters were discovered in the 13th century. In this short play an unpredictable game-show host, in the fantastical Court of Love, questions the nature of their relationship.
