Commanding Voices explores the horrendous consequences of parental oppression as we see an authoritarian father attempting to mould his son in his own academic image. Ben, a promising artist, has been offered a place to study at The Slade. However, his father has other ideas about Ben's future. His wife, Helen, has already sacrificed her promising career as a concert pianist to become the dutiful wife but can she stand by and watch as Edward attempts to suppress Ben's creativity. These pressures trigger Ben's OCD and set him on a roller-coaster journey through an alarming illness set against the backdrop of an ambitious father's political career.
