Failed States

"Somebody must have made a false accusation against Joseph K, for he was arrested one morning, having done nothing wrong". The chillingly prophetic scenario created in Kafka's The Trial is the starting point for this darkly comic and fiercely satirical musical. What happens when we sacrifice freedom and democracy in the name of security> What becomes of justice when the right to trial is abandoned for the politics of popularity? This urgent and compelling work delves into the murky world of international counter-terrorism and adds a powerful voice the debate over freedom and human rights. Failed States playfully examines important political themes through humour, song and one man's quest to clear his name.

User Review: 31Aug06: An unusal topic for a musical but for all you cynics out there I urge you to go and see this for yourself before passing judgement. The cast handle a difficult topic with sensitivity and humour. A great piece of new writing. Congratulations to all involved!
