Mary O'Malley, founder of the Lyric Players in 1951, was heavily influenced by the work of W.B. Yeats. His writings proved to be a constant presence and influence on the work that she brought to Belfast through the work of the Lyric Players' Theatre and all throughout the political tension in Northern Ireland Yeats' writings would resonate. Fighting the Waves sees the collaboration of students and actors from Galway and Belfast coming together to present a new piece of writing based on the extensive archive of Mary O'Malley and the Lyric Theatre. Written and directed by Caroline Lynch, Fighting the Waves is the story of Mary O'Malley's journey and the history of Yeats' work in Northern Ireland and will reach audience's old and new in this, the 150th anniversary of the birth of W.B. Yeats.
