Peer Gynt archivePeer Gynt sweeps around the world in a fruitless search for power and glory - outwitting wedding guests, trolls and a belly dancing con-woman who are all intent on bringing him down. Eventually this comic rogue is redeemed by the love of a good woman. The last of Ibsen's verse dramas.

Irina Brook, daughter of Peter Brook, first read Peer Gynt as a young actress living in New York in the 1980s. In a relationship at the time with Iggy Pop, she imagined Ibsen's eponymous hero as the boisterous rock star. Years later, her vision has been vividly realised in an adaptation featuring creative contributions from the legendary musician as well as new writing from Pulitzer Prize-winning Sam Shepard. Driven by a timeless hunger for fame and wealth, Peer remains a man on a desperate quest for his inner-self. His fantastical journey is wholly updated by this exuberant show rich in contemporary imagery, live music and original poetry. Running time: 2hrs 45mins/including an interval. Age guidance 12+Presented byTheatre National de Nice (after Henrik Ibsen). Adapted by Irina Brook. Director Irina Brook. Design Noelle Ginefri. Costume Magali Castellan. Lighting Arnaud Jung.

The critically acclaimed National Theatre of Scotland and Dundee Rep Ensemble co-production of Henrick Ibsen’s Peer Gynt which premiered at Dundee Rep in 2007. This new version of Peer Gynt, written by Colin Teevan, is directed by Dominic Hill whose Ubu the King played during the Young Genius season in bite05. Peer Gynt is a dreamer, liar and serial womaniser. Cast out from his home town, Peer embarks on a wild and astonishing journey in search of fame and fortune. In this anarchic production, Peer becomes a people trafficker and war profiteer. The play reunites Gerry Mulgrew (as the older Peer) and Ann Louise Ross (as his mother) who both starred in Ubu the King. After the Barbican run Peer Gynt tours Scotland.Producer Dundee Rep Ensemble. In this modern reinvention of [Ibsen]'s epic poem, Clare Venables cuts to the heart and soul of the original. In the protagonist's search for his own soul he makes the choice to remain free of human attachments, not realising that by doing so he destroys any chance he has of redemption. Dealing with powerful questions on the nature of free will and how our choices affect our lives and happiness, this is a Peer Gynt for the urban age.Director Clare Venables. Design Duncan MacAskill.
