Toast

T1168576588
Originally produced as part of the Theatre Machine's New Writing Workshops, 1997. It's 1975; the Sunday night shift in a Yorkshire bread factory. Seven men come together to bake enough bread to feed the entire population of Hull. It's just another Sunday. Nellie's so worn down from a lifetime of bread making he loses his vest in the dough; the First Over Man's on a promise; the oven's are cranked up and the wholemeal is pleasingly large going in . But there's a spanner in the works which threatens bread production in Hull for good and life as they know it for the men on the shift.

May Day (13Mar16): You are absolutely right.it was crap. 1
Malvern critic (28Feb16): Toast is the worst production I have ever seen. At the interval we walked out, so did many others. I cannot award any stars but this page does not allow for that, hence 1. My comments were removed from the Toast Facebook page and it's impossible to find reviews other than from newspaper critics. 1
