The New Kingdom Necropolis at SaqqaraFor over three thousand years, Saqqara was the principle necropolis of Memphis, the governmental capital of Egypt for most of the pharonic period. In the New Kingdom, Egypt's rulers were buried in the Valley of the Kings but many of the nobles built themselves magnificent tombs at Saqqara. In this Study Day, Professor Geoffrey Martin and leaders of the Joint Leiden Expedition to Saqqara will discuss their recent work there and their astonishing discoveries.
