Betrayal is one of Pinter's finest plays and within a few moments we are sucked into his beautifully crafted, naturaistic dialogue. The main cast of Tom Hiddleston (Robert), Zawe Ashton (Emma), Charlie Cox (Jerry) never leave the stage during this production so are always oberving, reflecting and responding to each other. Wonderful pacing keeps you fully engaged whilst their delivery is natural and convincing. There is a huge amount of humour in this production, much of it coming from little more than a tilt of the head or a raised eyebrow in response to comething said. I was utterly engrossed.
Excellent and clever staging, choreography and lighting enhance the piece without upstaging it and the shadow effects, particularly in the restaurant scene are incredibly effective.
A beautifully crafted and delivered piece of theatre
