What a great night out that was, full of great songs performed by an hugely talented and energetic cast plus bucket loads of feelgood factor!
Although there is some biographic story here, it is kept to a minimum as much to set the context as to provide historical information. The core of this show is, as it should be, the music. And what terrific music it is. The concentration is mostly on the songs of Buddy Holly himself though we are also treated to some Big Bopper and, delightfully, some Richie Valens hits. A J Jenks as Buddy is a real force to be reckoned with - he maintains a high energy performance throughout, right up to the final curtain and his rendition of the songs was genuinely authentic. Miguel Angel as Ritchie Valens was full-on and joyous, the audience loved the songs and his performance.
It is always sad to think what might have been. Buddy and Richie had such short careers and their deaths, plus those of the Big Bopper and the pilot on that snowy night were very sad. We are lucky to have the songs that they left and luckier still to have such skilled performers to play them for us.
A rockin' night out!
