It has been confirmed that director
Conall Morrison has now left
The Royal National Theatre's production of Ibsen's
Peer Gynt which is due to open at the
Olivier Theatre on 13 November 2000.
Trevor Nunn, the Artistic Director of The RNT, is understood to have taken over. This is a second blow for the production which was caught up in the ‘scheduling problems which beset
Romeo and Juliet. Rumours abound that friction between Conall Morrison and the company culminated in shouted directions during a preview performance on 21 October. A spokesperson for RNT said "Conall has not been sacked. He's ill. He's returned home on medical advice." According to The Stage the beleaguered Ensemble company has now been told that its contracts will not be renewed when they run out in January.
