The Shechter II young dance company brought their Contemporary Dance 2.0 to Plymouth and boy was it a powerful hour of modern dance. Shechter II is Hofesh Shechter Company’s paid development programme for the next generation of emerging artists aged 18-25 - a company of young dancers selected every two years and representing the most exceptional world-class dancers from across globe.
Performed in 5 sections, this piece has a driving soundtrack that some audience members described as "noise" but I would happily have bought to listen to! This is a clever, humorous and varied piece, running from driving bass to Bach. I particularly enjoyed the slightly tongue in cheek piece to Air on a G String - poking kindly fun at contemporary dance itself. Overall, this is a high energy evening, great group work, atmospheric lighting - the whole worked exceptionally well.
A great evening whether you are new to contemporary dance or a real aficionado.
