This is a beautiful production of Prokofiev's iconic ballet. Directed by Carlos Acosta, we are treated to a ballet that is accessible, moving and a true visual delight. I was particularly enamoured of the "crowd scenes". Those around the market place had a natural feel despite actually having the stylised and formal presentation required in ballet. The courtly dances had a power and a slight visual discordance that greatly added to the tension of those situations and contrasted well with the more intimate passages.
The two principle dancers for our performance, Yasuo Atsuji (Romeo) and Yaoqian Shang (Juliet) were excellent and curiously it helped having such a small Juliet - unlike so many productions you could believe that she was still a child which added a poignancy to the production that is sometimes hard to find.
A wonderful evening.
