What a wonderful panto! Like many pantos now it is more like a variety show with the acts tied together by a slightly weak story line but there's nothing wrong with that! It is the comedy and the spectacle that families go for, we do not expect high drama, just high camp!
This is a version of the traditional Snow White story with all the best bits like a wicked queen, handsome prince, a team of dwarfs and some magic. The core comedy is provided by Lesley Joseph (Queen Dragonella), Rob Rinder (The Man in the Mirror), Andy Ford (Muddles) and Samuel Holmes (The Governess). What a wonderful team! Andy Ford is a particular favourite of ours as we've seen him often and always admired his command of the panto format. Lesely Joseph is a consumate professional throughout and both Rob Rinder and Samuel Holmes deliver high energy comedic performances - this is excellent team work!
I always feel for the ‘love interest’ in a panto but Scott Maurice (The Prince) and Briana Craig (Snow White) manage to make an impact. As for Snow White's "little helpers" - well, these are ably provided by “The Magnificent Seven” of Jamie John (Professor), Josh Bennett (Cranky), Scott English (Cheery), Craig Salisbury (Sniffy), Abbie Purvis (Silly), Jack Hilton (Nervy) and Kyle Herd (Snoozy). Support is also provided by a troupe of local children and a live orchestra.
Sound balance was a little out at times but each of the sketches worked really well and there was plenty to laugh at and, with spectacular scenery, clever choreography and absolutely fabulous costumes, to look at and admire.
This is a really great family night out! Just the ticket ...
