Wedekind’s morality of mental health and sexuality for repressed teenagers is re-interpreted for small-town England in 1963. The setting is presented in a video of a school which plays throughout a song. We get the point long before the song ends, yet I did not feel this time-set added much to the production as there is no contrast to the burgeoning sexuality of swinging London.
The young actors work hard to portray these innocents and their adults, but the director should have pushed the pace. They seem to comfortable to take it very slowly and thus lose the drive of the story.
