CORONAVIRUS: All UK venues closed on 16th March 2020 and there is currently no planned re-opening time though it will not be before 1st June 2020 and is most likely to be September (according to some West End producers).
Some shows have been cancelled, or closed early, but many are being rescheduled and we are trying to keep up with the changes - assume that anything posted for April and May is actually postponed or cancelled. Pantomimes are possible but a few venues and shows may not return and larger venues and tours are unlikely to re-appear before 2021 though we have some hope for some panto ....
Having never seen the film I approached this show without prior expectations. So what did I get? Well, a bit of a mixed bag so how about a quick set of pointers to light the way
The songs and the music are great
The set is extremely versatile and really pushes the show along beautifully
Alexandra Burke has a really beautiful voice and is a pretty good actress
Melissa James also has a beautiful voice
The choreography is fab and the dancers sure do give it some welly
The stalker was laughable
Some nice effects but shock sounds leave a live audience giggling
The musical numbers were in a different league, and style, to the "plot" much of which was a bit film noir
The dialogue is pretty pathetic
And there you have the dilemma. Outside the theatre there was a sign warning patrons "this is a stage show not a concert so please keep in your seat and don't sing along" - I rather think I personally might have preferred this as a concert - great voices singing great songs with beautiful staging and dancing ... the plot felt like it got on the way a bit ;-)
