This outdoor production of Michael Morpurgo's take on several of the more famous Aesop's Fables is a fast-paced, entertaining and really rather pleasant way to spend an evening! The production takes place on a temporary stage (with its own temporary bar) immediately outside the front of the theatre and, on such a hot evening, we were very glad to be outside.
The energetic five strong vcast are on stage all the time and alternate around the instruments and characters with consumate ease. The Boy Who Cried Wolf is told in stages through the evening as a running story whilst the other tales (including an highly entertaining Hare and Tortoise) are told 'complete' Plenty of styloes are used from simple acting to song to slapstick so there's probably something here to keeep most children entertained ... and the adults amused too. The audience particularly appreciatedd the start of the second act - entertaining, clever and (on our night) 100% succesful.
A greta piece of family theatre and, if you get the weather, a lovely evening that ends early enough for you to stroll down to the river and catcha meal before heading home ... now that's a good evening out!
Catch it if you can ...
