Exit No Exit/Flicker
A meditation on endings and the enigma of departure. Nyman’s soundtrack for Exit No Exit is a partner piece to his earlier string quartet (Beckham Crosses/Nyman Scores) which featured a sample of world cup football commentary from John Motson. Jeyasingh commissioned Nyman to write a new piece for string quartet, this time in strikingly unusual combination with a solo bass clarinet - played live on tour by Andy Keenan. The most thrillingly modern of choreographers, Shobana Jeyasingh creates scintillating danceworks that reflect and illuminate the complex currents of contemporary urban life. In
Exit No Exit Jeyasingh's seven magnificent dancers are propelled by the anticipation of entrances and the impossibility of easy exits. Jeyasingh says: "Some stories are told because there is no way out. Some trap us and others we choose to be trapped inside."
Exit No Exit is part of a double bill with Jeyasingh’s and Nyman’s second collaboration,
Flicker, which premiered in January 2005.
