Chronicling her upbringing during the1920s, it vividly depicts the social and economic hardships of the time, but is also an enchanting tale told with tenderness and humour, of fond memories, of family and friends and a girl with a lust for life. Poll is the daughter of a miner on strike and we follow her journey - as she grows from the girl wearing bloomers several sizes too big and praying fervently for Father Christmas to bring her a doll - until her departure to work in service.
