T2100638363Cedric Tiberghien's musical imagination and versatility has captivated audiences worldwide. Fantasy, innovation and inventiveness run through all four works in this evening's programme. Mozart's harmonically bold C minor Fantasy looks ahead to Beethoven. Chopin is credited with inventing the Ballade - a musical form that went on to inspire Liszt and Brahms. In the second half we hear Bach's daring Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue, followed by Schumann's fantastical suite of mercurial mood changes, Kreisleriana, which the composer dedicated to Chopin. | |

Chopin at 200 - T01017600333The young French pianist Cédric Tiberghien makes his IPS debut with a thrilling recital based around the mazurka. Centre stage are Chopin’s Mazurkas, which bring together the earthy sounds of Polish folk music with the refined sensibilities of the Parisian salons. Tiberghien also includes mazurkas by Szymanowski and Scriabin as well as some by the little-known composer Alexandre Tansman who, like Chopin, was born in Poland but lived in France.
