Hammer and Tongs archiveMillan play music based on a union of English folk melodies with Indian rhythms. Together with musicians from the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, they have been working with Hampshire County Youth Orchestra, Peter Symonds College, Winchester and Farnborough Sixth Form College, introducing the students to the principles of Indian-style improvisation techniques and the process of collaboration between two cultures and musical styles. Tonight the whole group premiere two new full length pieces commissioned by The Anvil. The works, written in both fully scored and improvised sections, offer a fascinating insight into the meeting points between two strong musical traditions.
