Proms concerts are steeped in tradition and one of the great traditional pleasures for the audience is of joining in, becoming an integral part of a thrilling musical event. Whether clapping enthusiastically in (or out of!) time in the Sea Shanties, singing the heartfelt words of the visionary Jerusalem or waving patriotic flags in Land of Hope and Glorywhilst hundreds of fireworks explode high in the sky, it is all part of the much-loved ritual which has become such an essential element of the summer season.
