Relaxed Prom - T1802302145

Highlights from last night's Prom with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra - plus pieces by Walton and Ukrainian composer Myroslav Skoryk - in a short, relaxed performance with British Sign Language interpretation and onstage presentation. BBC Proms relaxed performances (Proms 11 & 25) are designed to suit individuals or groups who feel more comfortable attending concerts in a relaxed environment. There is a relaxed attitude to noise and audience members are free to leave and re-enter the auditorium at any point. There will be chill-out areas, where spaces are made for anyone needing a bit of quiet time before or during the performance.Performer Felix Klieser (horn). Company Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Conductor Kirill Karabits. Performer Naomi Wilkinson (presenter).

Shostakovich's Last Symphony and a Concerto for Theremin - T1110205993

John Storgards and the BBC Philharmonic conjure up shifting colours and evocative soundscapes in a programme rooted in geography and identity. Finnish composer Kalevi Aho's theremin concerto channels the instrument's mysterious, almost shamanistic quality in musical sketches of the eight annual seasons observed by Lapland's Sámi people, while Kaija Saariaho reflects broad Californian views in the bold sonic gestures of Vista. Surveying not a place but an entire life, Shostakovich's final symphony offers a dark, enigmatic conclusion to a career shaped by conflict, political oppression and loss.Performer Carolina Eyck (theremin). Company BBC Philharmonic. Conductor John Storgards.

Tchaikovsky, Glinka & Joby Talbot - T0952037027

Guitarist Milos Karadaglic is the soloist in a new concerto written especially for him by Joby Talbot. Taking inspiration from Karadaglic's Montenegrin heritage, Talbot's typically rhythmic piece incorporates Balkan dances into its propulsive flow. Dance also runs through both Glinka's heat-soaked Summer Night in Madrid, accompanied by pulsing castanets, and the expansive waltzes of Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker, whose complete Act 1 is here performed for the first time at the Proms.Performer Milos Karadaglic (guitar). Company Finchley Childrens Music Group. Company BBC Symphony Orchestra. Conductor Alexander Vedernikov.

Dvorak's Cello Concerto and Bartok's Duke Bluebeard's Castle - T0763526800

The gothic horror story of Duke Bluebeard prompted some of the most imaginative, descriptive and shocking music Bartok would write. With its huge orchestra, underpinned in this concert performance by the mighty Royal Albert Hall organ, Bartok's score speaks of the darkness of Bluebeard's vast castle and the cold-blooded murder of his six wives. Under Principal Conductor Charles Dutoit, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conjures up Bartok's unsettling realm after Dvorak's Cello Concerto, which the composer believed 'outstrips the other two concertos of mine'.Performer Alban Gerhardt (cello). Performer Ildiko Komlosi (Judith). Performer John Relyea (Duke Bluebeard). Company Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Conductor Charles Dutoit.

Orfeo - T0752004679

Monteverdi's Orfeo is the first great opera - the moment when psychological truth and musical virtuosity came together to tell a story of love, loss and the power of art. Sir John Eliot Gardiner - making the first of two appearances this year, tonight with the English Baroque Soloists - transforms the Royal Albert Hall into the 17th-century Mantuan court of the Gonzagas with some of Monteverdi's loveliest melodies and most colourful instrumental writing, bringing the tale of Orpheus and his beloved Eurydice to fresh musical life. The Tallis Scholars sing Tavener - T979586626

Spiritual in a secular age, combining silence and sound, simplicity and radiance, John Tavener captured the public imagination like few other composers. The other-worldly atmosphere of a Late Night Prom frames a musical meditation by the English composer, who would have celebrated his 70th birthday this year, as we approach the exact anniversary of Britain's declaration of the First World War 100 years ago, at 11.00pm. The Tallis Scholars and conductor Peter Phillips are joined by the Heath Quartet to perform two works written especially for them, including the heartbreakingly prescient Requiem Fragments, composed shortly before Tavener's death. Finish time approx. 22:30Performer Carolyn Sampson (soprano). Company Heath Quartet. Company Tallis Scholars. Conductor Peter Phillips.

Zappa - The Adventures of Greggery Peccary - T981791778

Trend-mongers, philosophers and hunchmen. A car-chase, a love-in and a replica mahogany desk. A coughing mountain, a choir of stenographers and an exceptional swine-pig called Greggery. Nicholas Collon and the Aurora Orchestra give the first Proms performance of Frank Zappa's high-energy counter-culture satire The Adventures of Greggery Peccary. An arrangement of a zany Nancarrow study and the UK premiere of Philip Glass's 10th Symphony complete a far-out late-night happening from one of Britain's most vivacious young orchestras. There will be no interval. Finish time: approx. 23:30Company Aurora Orchestra. Conductor Nicholas Collon.

Ives, Barber, Zimmermann & Tippett - T0574454414

BBC SO Principal Guest Conductor David Robertson begins with two iconic American pieces before turning to works in which the emotive force of the African American spiritual is harnessed by composers of the old world. In A Child of Our Time Tippett drew in five spirituals to reaffirm the indispensable human values of compassion and brotherhood. Star trumpeter H?kan Hardenberger returns and an impressive array of international singing talent features alongside tonight's newly formed youthful chorus. Grainger - T1757252868

A pioneering collector of folk music from around the globe and arguably the world's first crossover artist, Grainger explored new worlds and invented new sounds, by turns touching, funny and provocative. Special guests, including the distinguished English folk singer June Tabor, place his achievement in its folk-music context. There will be no interval. London Sinfonietta - T1848655941

The London Sinfonietta's Late Night Prom reunites the orchestra with its founder-conductor David Atherton. The two Stravinsky works were premiered in Venice during the 1950s and share the haunting, distilled musical language that the ever-evolving composer adopted in later years. Threni, receiving its first Proms performance, sets the Lamentations of Jeremiah in a quirky and intensely spiritual style, while Stravinsky's recasting of Bach's variations on the Christmas hymn 'Vom Himmel hoch' embellishes them in ever-changing instrumental colours. The original variations for organ open the programme. Finish time: approx. 23:10Conductor David Atherton. Company BBC Singers. Company London Sinfonietta. Performer Alizabeth Atherton (soprnao). Performer Hilary Summers (mezzo-soprano). Performer Alan Oke (tenor). Performer Andrew Kennedy (tenor). Performer David Wilson-Johnson (baritone). Performer John Tomlinson (Sir - bass). BBC National Orchestra of Wales - T0372651078

The hero of the 'Eroica' was at first Napoleon but ultimately became Beethoven himself, triumphing over the adversity of his deafness. Berlioz's extraordinary Symphonie also contains a funeral march and an apotheosis but, unlike the 'Eroica', it was designed to accompany a real funeral cortège for the heroes of the 1830 July Revolution; the 'funeral oration' itself was delivered as a sonorous trombone solo salvaged from Berlioz's abandoned opera Les francs-juges. The title of Michael Jarrell's new piece refers to a wake of a different kind - the trace a ship leaves in the water; it was written with tonight's three soloists in mind, and is conducted by the Swiss composer's compatriot: Thierry Fischer. Approx. finish time: 22:05Performer Emmanual Pahud (flute). Performer Francois Leleux (oboe). Performer paul Meyer (clarinet). Conductor Thierry Fischer.
