The man who, more than anyone else, made it possible to treat literature seriously on TV, and who began Radio 4's highbrow chatshow Start the Week, Melvyn - now Lord Bragg, is the author of more than a dozen novels as well as several other books. Controller of Arts at LWT and President of the National Campaign for t he Arts, he is one of the leading influences behind the proposed National Academy of Writing.
