Artifact - T639331723Artifact was the first ballet that William Forsythe created after becoming director of the Frankfurt Ballet in 1984. It has been described as "a masterpiece" and "a work that definitively shows Forsythe as the most influential practitioner of the art form since Balanchine" (New York Times). Nearly 30 years after its premiere, Sadler's Wells is proud to present this seminal piece performed by one of Europe's most respected dance companies, Royal Ballet of Flanders. A ballet in four parts, Artifact features music by J.S. Bach and scenography, lighting, costumes and choreography all by William Forsythe. It is famous for the way it subverts the traditional physical principles of ballet and plays with audiences ideas about what ballet can be. Running time: 1hr 49mins (including one 20min interval) | |

Romeo and Juliet - T1495782237Inspired by the talents of this young and dynamic company, Prokovsky presents a fast-moving version of [Shakespeare]’s classic story of Verona’s star-crossed lovers, reducing it to two acts and focusing specifically on Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio and Tybalt. The dancers are light, fleet of foot and stylish. With [Prokofiev]’s exquisite score performed by the [Royal Ballet Sinfonia] and [Alexandre Vassilev]’s Rennaissance costumes, this is a romantic yet poignant variation on an old favourite.Choreographer Andre Prokovsky. Not Strictly Rubens - T01842756840The double bill Not Strictly Rubens links ballet with the visual arts. Inspired by the linear compositions of [Mondrian], Syposium was set for the company by New York choreographer [Christopher d'Ambrose] to music by [Leonard Bernstein]. As a counterpoint to this neoclassic work, Rubens is conceived by Flemish choreographer [Marc Bogaerts] as a metphor for creative man and the act of creation. The piece brings together an apt team of cutting edge professionals including pop and dance phenomenom [Praga Khan], who have been commissioned to create a new score, the Antwerp fashion king [Walter Van Beirendonck] and the French lighting and stage designer [Philippe Arlaud].Choreographer Christopher d'Amboise (Symposium).
