Korper - T213379600Berlin-based dance-maker and tanztheater luminary Sasha Waltz is celebrated for her compelling imagery and body-focused choreography. Taking the body itself as her subject in K?rper, Waltz combines clinical analysis and fantastical illusions as 13 dancers meld together to form strange chimerical creatures and squirm behind glass like scientific specimens, in a series of living tableaus. Examining how we manipulate them, extend their use and produce new ones, Waltz studies every aspect of the shells we call home, from calculating their financial value, to counting, weighing and measuring the components that make them up. | |

Sacre - T1936589175To mark the hundredth anniversary of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, Sasha Waltz premiered her own vision of the piece in 2013. The tension-charged and angular composition is characterised by a strong rhythm and a layering of constantly repeating musical motifs. Earlier large-scale pieces of Waltz' work, including her Medea (2007) and Continu (2010), lay the foundations for this new piece, and showcased elements of Waltz' research into rites and group dynamics, which now culminate in Sacre. Sacre is presented at Sadler's Wells as part of a three-part evening, together with Sasha Waltz' choreographies of Sc?ne d'Amour (from Romeo and Juliet) with music by Berloiz, and Debussy's L'Apres-midi d'un faune. D'Avant - T01397172540When Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet met Luc Dunberry and Juan Kruz Diaz de Garaio Esnaola from the dance ensemble Sasha Waltz & Guests for the first time, they discovered a shared passion for medieval music. Recognising a core thread within each other's work - the voice's ability to flow over movement to become theatrical - here the four combine as a medieval quartet to perform songs from the 12th and 13th centuries, bringing the Middle Ages into the present through dance and song. On a set comparable to a construction site, they fight, relate, approach, question, love and hate each other in all possible ways in the UK premiere of this rarely performed production. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui performed Apocrifu at Southbank Centre in January 2013 with Corsican vocal ensemble A Filetta. Damien Jalet has collaborated with choreographers Wim Vandekeybus and Akram Khan, and the visual artists Antony Gormley and Jim Hodges. He has also worked with musicians Bj?rk, Florence and the Machine and Editors. UK PremierePerformer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Performer Damien Jalet. Performer Luc Dunberry.
