Details

From a refugee settlement near Cartagena in war torn Colombia, the children and young people of the Colegio del Cuerpo challenge all preconceptions. In The Soul of Things they present the soul of recycled objects via a daring and powerful blend of Caribbean rhythms, contemporary and traditional Colombian dance forms and jaw-dropping grace, passion and athleticism. Many young Colombian refugees have been exposed to an extreme level of physical and emotional violence. Dance is able to liberate the body from these scars. Led by Colombian dancer Alvaro Restrepo, who has trained with Merce Cunningham and Martha Graham, publicly admired by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and following several international tours, these young people are realising impossible dreams.
