A celebration!! Processions and free street entertainment culminating in a vibrant and colourful performance at the Barracks, followed by yet more street spectacle. Join King James VI of Scotland as the people of Berwick entertain him and his family on the eve of his accession to the throne of England as James I. Shakespeare's new play (this is 1603 remember!) has been chosen as suitable entertainment for James with his love of poetry and literature, but the good townsfolk of Berwick have a problem - his Queen, Anne of Denmark, and their children have a great love of spectacle and fun - not the main ingredients of Hamlet normally! So they some up with a wonderful solution - A new Hamlet! - A Hamlet with music and spectacle! an Opera! So tonight we present a fantastical creation, uniting performers from both sides of the Border, for one night only. An entertainment fit for the royal family and an opera that unites the years 1603 and 2003. A genuine once in a life-time opportunity!
