David Scott Kastan will consider the controversy that surrounds The Book of Sir Thomas More. The main collaborators involved in the play appear to have turned to Shakespeare for the 145 line re-write and his hand-written revision has survived as part of a unique manuscript copy of the play - hence the play's lasting interest to scholars. David Kastan's lecture will go beyond this to explore what the manuscript reveals about Elizabethan playwriting, authorship, censorship and the gaps between manuscript and performance.
