Computer simulations suggest sea level around the South East of England will rise by half a meter by 2050, and it has been estimated that the worldwide cost of dealing with the effects of climate change is spiralling towards 0 billion. Is it too late to take effective remedial action? Would the money set aside for the Kyoto Protocol be better spent helping those already suffering in the developing world? Mark Maslin, associate professor at the Environmental Change Research Centre and author of Global Warming: a Very Short Introduction outlines some of the scientific predictions regarding climate change and examines their implications.
