Cage

Renegade Theatre returns to Southbank Centre after their smash hit Rumble, an electrifying hip-hop take on Romeo and Juliet. Their new production Cage reinterprets poet and philosopher Euripides' The Bacchae. This classic dark Greek tragedy centres around Dionysos returning home to the town of his birth, and, upon finding neither his cult nor his human mother honoured, his subsequent revenge on his cousin, the King of Thebes. Retold through modern dance, circus theatre, digital graffi ti, with hip-hop styling by director Markus Michalowski and choreography by former Parisian b-boy and ex-Pina Bausch Ensemble dancer Lorca Renoux, this epic myth takes on new relevance.
