Tonight's news, that the legendary Fred Astaire has passed away, brings Simon home from his job in a menswear shop in a rueful mood. Conscious of the gulf between Liverpool and Sunset Boulevard he wonders how different his life might have been if he had just had one drop of that great star's talent...
