Forgotten? No! Many Chartists sacrificed their lives in protest at the injustices of their age, some outside the Old Westgate Hotel, Newport, where statues commemorate the fallen. Popular with shoppers and weary travellers who enjoy sitting amongst them, how many know about the triumphs and despairs of their forebears, working people who helped them gain the vote? A redrafted version of The Forgotten, sounds these silent voices of our local history, in a tale told through music and song, a tale of passion, community and divided loyalties, of real people, who through their struggle seeded democracy in this country.
The Forgotten is part of the annual Chartist convention commemorating Chartism in the region but also celebrating the nation's love of music and the voice.
