Inspired by the recent smash hit 'The Psychopath Test' by Jon Ronson, The Madness Game follows a so-called 'psychopath's' struggle for freedom. Camus, a man with a dark and intriguing past, pleaded clinical insanity in order to avoid incarceration. He soon discovered that 'insanity' is an almost impossible label to shift. As well as addressing controversial issues, such as the thin line between 'sanity' and 'insanity', this opera aims to make the audience reflect upon elements of human psychology such as our compulsion to compete and play games, and ultimately to win. It also leads us to question whether our tendency to categorize and label the things around us inhibits us from seeing the world, and the people within it, as they truly are.
