Details

The Qingdao Beijing Opera was established in 1950. It inherited the long tradition of Chinese drama, and for over fifty years has created and performed more than one hundred works, including traditional operas, reworked historical plays and modern Beijing dramas. It has successfully recreated Yanpai Art which had been silent on the opera stage for more than a decade, and in recent years has permitted its gifted young performers to have the opportunity of playing leading roles on stage. Today the Qingdao Beijing Opera is renowned for presenting, with equal skill, both traditional Chinese operas and contemporary dramas. It regularly undertakes tours within China, visiting major cities like Shanghai, as well as remote provinces such as Inner Mongolia. It also travels overseas and performs in many countries including more recently, Korea, Japan and Ukraine, where its artistic achievements have been much admired.
