Recognised as the greatest South African novel in English, Alan Paton s Cry, the Beloved Country was published in 1948 - it has been in print ever since and sold millions of copies worldwide. This is the world s first professional adaptation, produced in 2003 in South Africa to celebrate the centenary of Paton s birth, and is touring to celebrate ten years of South African democracy. The story deals with two fathers, one white and one black, and their two sons.
