Housewife, 49 archiveThroughout the Second World War, Barrow-in-Furness housewife and mother Nella Last kept a diary. This stage adaptation based on Victoria Wood's double BAFTA award winning television drama charts Nell's wartime experiences. In her struggles to come to terms with the changing relationships within her family she forms some unexpected and lasting friendships and blossoms into the mainstay of the local Women's Voluntary Service. Her moving and often hilarious observations on sex, death and fear of invasion provide a unique female perspective on the war years as experienced by Nella- "Housewife 49".
