Lion of the Punjab - Maharajah Ranjit Singh archiveA legendary figure in British-Indian history who became Ruler of the Punjab at the age of 10. His combination of skilled diplomacy and shrewd leadership enabled him to unite a fiercely divided country and keep the British East Indian Company at bay. He was the first owner of the famous Kohinoor diamond who 'willed' it to a Hindu temple, before it 'mysteriously' passed into the possession of Queen Victoria. It now takes pride of place among the Crown Jewels which can be seen in the Tower of London.
