Lonely Lives archiveLonely Lives is set towards the end of the last century, and bears great resonance for our own society's coming-to-terms with the death of one century and the beginning of a new one. The play studies three generations of one family and their personal experiences of the uncertainties, fears and new hopes of an era in transition. These begin when a stranger comes to visit at their secluded little summer hose. She sparks a chain of events which have their roots in the deep unease and tensions in the household bubbling below the surface for many years. The title refers to the way in which we isolate ourselves by the rigid opinions we cling to for security, and the mental boundaries which we delineate for ourselves, both on a social and personal scale.
