Pearls of the East archiveThe play theatrically explores classic Filipino folk tales and myths, updating them and putting Pinoy Theatre's own style to the work. This Spring will have a show comprised of such inherently Filipino characters as Juan Tamad, Malakas and Maganda, Mariang Makiling and, of course, the terrifying Aswang. These classic characters will be played out before your eyes in a completely original show. Folklore is such a universal subject that everyone, not just Filipinos, will be able to enjoy and relate to the story. Take Juan for example: Juan Tamad, or "Lazy John" to our English readers, is the laziest man in town. So lazy in fact, he would lie under a tree with his head tilted back and wait for the fruit to fall into his waiting mouth when it's ripe and ready. However, just because Juan is lazy doesn't mean the world around him won't move at a fast and furious pace, especially not his parents who are committed to finding him a bride. How will Juan cope? You'll have to come and see...
