The Immigrant explores what the world would look like if Africa was the greatest continent in the World. Set in 3015, Oliver, a Brit seeking asylum is in detention, where he pleads his case to Usman, an African border official, who isn't fond of immigrants. What ensues is a battle of words and stories neither is truly prepared for. Sometimes what we think of as truths are also lies.
The Immigrant is the second play to come from Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor, off the back of 'Sunday' which was first performed at the Theatre Royal Stratford East as part of a new writing programme and later further developed there.
