The Party archiveThe wine cellar of 10 Downing Street. Upstairs, the drink is flowing freely. But down here, two men are getting randy against the wine racks: sounds like a party to you, doesn't it? Well, you'd be wrong - it's just your average run-of-the-mill work drinks. With champagne. And Cheese. In the Cabinet Room. In the heart of the government. In the midst of lockdown. This is what the Tory SpAd, Samuel Fitzgerald, tells himself on the evening of April 16th, 2021, when he escapes downstairs with the handsome waiter, Dean, for a quick bang against the bottles. Samuel initially seems keen to get back to the celebration upstairs, but it soon becomes clear that he would rather be anywhere but the party. Dean, meanwhile, harbours secret ambitions of his own and sees in Samuel an opportunity to have them realised. With political hypocrisy heavy in the air, and Samuel's superior, Adrienne, keen to 'get it off' with him by the end of the night, both men are thrust into a crucible in which they must question their careers and their consciences.
